I was at a committee meeting recently and we began over thinking what you call a study that includes the calculation of incident energy, arc flash boundary, arcing current, labeling, and report. It may include shock boundaries, and short circuit and coordination analysis.

There are many different terms used but none of us recall a standardized term for this study.

Some of the common terms are:
Arc Flash Study
Incident Energy Analysis
Risk Assessment
Arc Flash Calculation Study
Arc Flash Hazard Analysis
Something else – please list

Which term do you use most often?

Generally I refer to it as an Arc Flash Study. I consider the other options to be subsets of a general study. These subsets may be performed or ignored depending on the customers need and scope of work. A complete Arc flash Study encompasses all of these options.

I selected the first, but I use more than one depending on the context. I often prefer arc fault study, since an arc might not always "flash", but I'm aware the difference is somewhat arbitrary.
