We had an interesting question last week regarding incident energy calculations and the gap distance on the low voltage secondary of transformers. The bus gap is often quite large - normally 6 inches or greater. So, the question that a forum member asked is if people use the actual large gap (I would question arc sustainability) or do you use one of the standard IEEE 1584 values like 25 or 32 mm? I promised I would ask the group as part of this week's Question of the Week.
BTW, if you have a question you would like to see asked, let me know!
So here is the question:
What bus gap do you use for the low voltage secondary of transformers?
Actual gap IEEE 1584 values of 25 or 32 mm Something else We don’t perform/require studies
