Post subject:  Arc Flash Warning Labels in Substations

Is anyone using arc flash warning labels with PPE etc. listed in substations? If so, where are they posted, on the equipment, on the substation gate/fence? - Thanks!

My substation is in a manufacturing plant and everything is deadfront. So I have a label on the doors of all the equipment. If I had an open crib type substation, I would have a large sign made, something like 12"x8" and post it on all entrance gates. For live front equipment typical labelling probably won't work. Could you imagine a 4"x3" label with 1/4" text on the can of regulator and it reads that a 10ft arc flash boundary is required. You'd have to get within 24" just to read it. Plus in a substation you are dealing exclusively with trained personnel. So your policy could say, on the gate, and I think that would cover you.
